11/11/2023 0 Comments Destruction born to perishOld school thrasher “ Inspired By Death” is a galloping tour de force and something that becomes prevalent through out the album, especially on tracks like “ We Breed Evil” which has a killer groove to it. The raw power of Destruction’s signature sound which I witnessed first hand at their show last year in Perth is captured brilliantly here on record, a feat many fail to deliver on all accounts and admitedly something Destruction have been pursuing for some time. Immediately you hear the impact of drummer Randy Black, best known for his work with Annihilator and second guitarist Damir Eskic for added muscle in the guitar department. The first taste we had from the album was the title track and right off the bat it’s full steam ahead. Destruction may be part of what’s known as the Teutonic 4 but I always felt they were understated and this latest album showcases that even further. That’s a big call for a band whose history goes back as far as 1982 which is pretty much at the forefront of thrash metal along with the greats like Metallica, Kreator and Slayer and for any band whose past always seems to stick with fans more than their later part of their career. Their latest album “Born To Perish” is further proof that if you have something good that you run with it and it also further cements their legacy as a band who remain as relevant as ever.Īfter taking some time to sink into this latest album from the German outfit (now a 4 piece with the inclusion of a second guitarist, Damir Eskic) as well as having a chat recently with frontman Schmier about the new songs, the resulting conclusion is that Destruction have truly come up with some of their best work to date. These musicians really hold the crowd at their fingertips and interact greatly.17 studio albums in and veteran thrash metal legends Destruction are showing no signs of slowing down. Destruction‘s music is aggressive and relentless it will not allow loosening up. This is the demonstration of strength and skills. Again, about the atmosphere of concert: the crowd’s sing alongs like “Nailed to the fucking cross!” are really immersing.īorn To Thrash is not a compilation of best songs or live version of the last album. On one hand you expect to hear the vocals a little bit louder but on the other, you can hear (and dismantle) the lyrics well, so there are no some specific claims. Schmier’s vocals (vicious roaring, which sometimes goes to high-pitched shrieks) sound on a par with guitars. All instruments can be heard, the sound is not bad at all, maybe “dry” a little bit but it’s inherent to the oldschool Thrash Metal. The quality of was always a problem for live records and I can’t say that everything is ideal in Born To Thrash. Some songs like “Curse Of The Gods” and “Nailed To The Cross” can also be found in previous live albums and this is an opportunity to compare how Destruction sounded earlier and how they sound now, with four band’s members (Damir Eskić officially joined the band in 2019). Schmier gives some rest to fans from time to time: his speeches in German last exactly to take a breath between mosh pits but not to get bored and go from stage to take some beer. The selection of the songs is also good for another reason: they all merge to one long and very aggressive Thrash attack. The only songs from the latest album here are “Born To Perish” and “Betrayal” and the others cover early band’s works and more recent albums equally. The playlist apparently was made to please all the fans – those, who started to listen to the band in 2000s and oldschool ones. Born To Thrash is relatively short for a live album: 10 songs last about 50 minutes but it’s enough to feel the atmosphere of the live concert, enjoy it and don’t get tired of it.
